Transforming An Entrance Lobby: Welcoming Biophilic Charm and Colourful Ambience
A well designed reception creates a sense of belonging and identity with staff, which can influence and inspire employees’ mindset and attitude for the day, reminding them they are part of something bigger. It also impacts visitors’ first impressions of the business.
Revamping an Entrance Lobby for Enhanced Ambience
The 4T Medical clients moved offices and although the office itself was coming together, they were really struggling with their entrance lobby. It is quite industrial looking as it is also the entrance to the warehouse and just doesn’t look very welcoming.

Importance of Well-Designed Reception Areas for Employee Morale
A well designed reception creates a sense of belonging and identity with staff, which can influence and inspire an employee’s mindset and attitude for the day, reminding them they are part of something bigger. It also impacts visitors’ first impressions of the business.
Since the clients already used the wall finish Babouche No.223 from the Farrow & Ball collection in the kitchen area, we thought it would be great to bring this cheerful hue to the reception area. We wanted to add more interest and vibrancy to the space, making a greater impact on the way it looks and feels than walls painted in one colour so we opted for half painted walls.
Enhancing Biophilic Design: Boosting Productivity and Mood
Research shows that having elements of biophilic designs improve productivity by 6% and creativity by up to 15%.
Vegetated spaces can improve an individual’s self-esteem and mood. To bring more biophilia into the space and make it feel more airy we proposed artificial plants wall decor discs, and artificial plants in the planter behind the bench.

We also managed to incorporate a life plant thanks to an ingenious Life planter from Prolicht.
“Designed to allow you to replicate the circadian cycle in the plants using lighting, it has a luminous disc that you can manually rotate to recreate the five light phases of the day: Sunrise, Day, Sunset, Dusk, and Night. By rotating its disc and adjusting the light temperature, you can simulate the varied positions and levels of solar irradiation that indoor botany might experience. By enhancing the health of the plants, it also improves the air quality in the environment.“

Creating Ambience: Lighting Solutions and Decorative Elements
We also saw a great opportunity to use the space between the two columns to design a bench seat where visitors can wait; made out of natural oak veneer with a soft removable seat.

The columns will be cladded with oak tubes each incorporating a mini light which will create a more interesting ambience and soften the existing ceiling lights. For additional decorative lighting we proposed three pendants from Curiosa Studio – all three are made using colorful hand blown glass.
Our Final Thoughts
By integrating biophilic elements, vibrant colours, and innovative solutions, the once industrial-looking space now exudes warmth and charm.
As businesses continue to recognise the importance of crafting inviting spaces for both employees and visitors, investing in such design enhancements becomes increasingly valuable.
